~~Lorraine Annie Prest, 88 passed away June 14, 2017 in the Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Halifax on February 27, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Cyril and Daisy (Little) Prest.
She is survived by a wonderful friend, Roberta Bishop.
She was predeceased by close friends, Viola and Minnie Eaton.
Lorraine had a hard start to her life. She was in a county home when she was very young. She then came to live with Viola Eaton and her daughter Minnie of whom was a school teacher. Viola died March 18, 1974 and Minnie asked that Lorraine stay due to being her home for so long. Minnie and Lorraine became close friends.
Minnie passed away December 5, 1992, leaving the family home to her niece Roberta Bishop and her husband Gerald. Again, Lorraine was asked to stay due to this being her only real home. One day, Lorraine lost her balance and fell onto a lit stove, June 10, 1993. After a short stay in hospital, it was advised to place her in Seyforth Home in Morristown. She moved in July 12, 1993. Her stay there was short lived and she returned to hospital. From there she was moved to a nursing home in Bridgetown. Lorraine was moved one more time and on December 17, 2008, she moved to the Grand View Manor in Berwick where she spent the remainder of her life.
Lorraine may never have married or had a family of her own, but she had a fulfilling life with the wonderful family that took her in as their own.
A Graveside Service will be held on June 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Berwick Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Berwick Chapel, 192 Commercial Street Berwick (902-538-9900).
