Obituary of Bettylu Mabel Reeves

Bettylu Mabel Reeves, 81 passed away March 11, 2017 with family by her side in Mahone Nursing Home. Born in New Ross January 23, 1936, she was the daughter of Edgar and Mabel (Britton) Russell. She graduated from NS Normal College, Truro in the mid 1950's and taught school in the New Ross area for several years. She had a lifelong passion for reading and following current affairs. Some of her happiest times were spent volunteering with friends to prepare meals at the Forties Community Centre. She loved to cook and the family will always have fond memories of her delicious turkey dinners and cherry pie. Bettylu was a longtime member the Forties Garden Club and St. Augustine Anglican Church. She is survived by her children Shelley (Glendon); Sean and Gavin; grandchildren Daniel (Katherine Munroe); Michelle (Anthony Slauenwhite); Courtney (Brent) Smith and Dexter (Candace Cross); great grandchild Bryson Bruce Smith; brothers Barry (Elaine); Carl; Robin; and Miles (Della) Russell; sisters Kathy (Lathan) Olmstead and Cherie Russell. Bettylu was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1987 and sister-in-law Vivian (Carl) Russell. We, the family, would like to extend our sincere thanks to each and every staff member at Mahone Nursing Home for their outstanding care and the kindness shown to our Mom. We would also like to mention with gratitude that our Mom had several loyal and dear friends that supported her throughout her life and she treasured those friendships greatly. A visitation will take place on March 15, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the New Ross Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on March 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the St. Augustine Anglican Church, the Forties. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Augustine Anglican Church.
