Darrell Gregory Ward, 78 of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB passed away on April 11, 2017 in the Saint John Regional Hospital with his family present. He was the son of the late Carl and Grace (Redmond) Ward. Since 1959, he was an Amateur Radio operator VE1ALQ. He was well known for designing, building and repairing amateur radios and antennas for himself and others. For many years he worked stations all around the world via EME moonbounce, on the large array and dishes mounted high a top the many towers build in the yard. His career took him to work for such places as the Kentville Research Station, Glace Bay's Atomic Energy, Beckman Instruments and NB Power Point Lepreau. He was a member of the Old Timers Club (407). Darrell would unwind by playing county music on his guitar and mouth organ with family and friends. He loved all his family dogs over the years, most recently Chyna and Ilya. And in the last several years, he took up league bowling three times a week at the Bowlrama. Darrell is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte; Children, Greg Ward of NB; Colleen (Tim) Walsh of NL; and Debbie Ward; MaryAnn Cranton of NS; Chris Ward of NS; sister Donna (Donnie) Chishom of NS; three grandchildren Cadence, Jack and Justin; one great grandchild Jyden and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers Ronald and Percy; sister Seila (Tiny). A Funeral Service will be held on April 22, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the Berwick Chapel. Interment to take place at a later date. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a Charity of One's Choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, Berwick Chapel, 192 Commercial Street Berwick (902-538-9900).
