Obituary of Frances Elizabeth "Betty" Bridson

Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frances Elizabeth "Betty" Bridson (nee Wheatley) of Kentville Nova Scotia, passed away April 15th, 2017, in her 88th year. Born January 10, 1929 in Montreal, Betty spent her childhood in Rosemount and later lived in Pointe Claire. She and Ed met while working together at Bell Canada, and they married April 6th, 1956. They raised their children in Pierrefonds, then moved to Kitchener, Ontario in 1982. Betty was a force of nature, wearing many hats over the years - sailor, gardener, pianist, softball player, seamstress, skater, Guide leader, singer, volunteer, world traveler and recycler extraordinaire! She welcomed creatures in need, from abandoned dogs, to wounded birds, to classroom pets needing a summer home. She was vivacious, protective, argumentative, generous, and fiercely independent. In her final years, as her dementia progressed, her indomitable spirit remained, along with her caring soul - she became the queen of hugs. Betty will be lovingly missed by her children, Cheryl (Chris), Granville Centre, Nova Scotia; Derek, Kitchener, Ontario; and Steve (Mandy), Stayner, Ontario; and grandchildren Evan, Caitlin and Noa. She was predeceased by Edmund, husband of 57 years; parents Francis and Lois Wheatley; brother Geoffrey; and 8 canine companions. Many, many heartfelt thanks to Betty's Wedgewood House family, in Kentville Nova Scotia, for all their love and care over the past three years, and to the Careforce and Mountain Lea Lodge staff who were there for her in her last days. Following cremation, Betty will be reunited with Ed in Memory Gardens, Breslau (Kitchener, Ontario). Betty's final gift was to Dalhousie University's Maritime Brain Tissue Bank, in support of dementia research. In lieu of flowers, donations to your provincial Alzheimer Society would be sincerely appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr. (902-679-2822).
