Obituary of Kenneth "Robert" Fitch

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kenneth Robert "Bob" Fitch, 95, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday May 4th, 2017. Born and raised in Kentville, Bob graduated from Kings County Academy before training as a licensed carbon arc projectionist for the movie theatres. He went on to work as a projectionist for Spencer Family Theatres until enlisting in the Second World War, expecting to be sent overseas. Due to being a licensed projectionist he was instead put in charge of the camp theatre at Aldershot, where he ran the training videos for the duration of the war. In October of 1945, Bob married Muriel (Dixon), whom he remained married to for 70 years. After the war, they moved to Truro for a brief time where he ran the theatre, before taking a job with Acadia Bus Lines and moving back to Kentville. After returning to Kentville, Bob also worked as a projectionist for George Fielding Cinemas, which included the Paramount Cinema in Kentville and the Valley Drive-In. He eventually began working for the Canadian Postal Service in Kentville, where he remained until his retirement 31 years later. During Bob's time with the Postal Service he was the Shop Steward for the local chapter of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, and he received an award for Canada Post Philatelic Clerk. He became the president of the KCA Band Parents Association, and in later years the president of the Atlantic division of the Wally Byam Airstream Trailer Club. Over the years Bob's favorite things included fishing, trailering, yard and garden work, baseball, hockey, music, attending church functions, and most importantly, spending time with his family. Bob was predeceased by his parents John and Annie (Legge) Fitch; siblings George, Stella, Eleanor, and Frank; and his beloved wife Muriel. He is survived by his brother Arthur, son Allan, and two grandchildren, Naomi (Josh) Bacon, and Jacob Duboy-Fitch. He will always be remembered as a loving brother, husband and father, and the best grandfather anyone could ever have. A joint memorial for Bob and wife Muriel will be held on Thursday May 11th, 2017 at 2pm in the St. Mary's Anglican Church in Auburn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Annapolis Valley Regional Hospital or the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr. (902-679-2822).
