It is with great sadness that the Waseem family announce the passing of a wonderful wife, mother and Großmutter. Dr. Gertrud Waseem, 89 of Wolfville, NS passed away on Monday May 15, 2017 in the Valley Regional Hospital. She was a retired professor of Acadia University. She completed her masters in German from McGill in 1960 and completed her PHD from McGill in 1975. From 1960 – 1993, providing 34 years of service to Acadia University. She started the German Department at Acadia University and chaired the department from 1970 to 1982. She was awarded Professor Emeritus at her retirement in 1993. She donated countless hours and effort towards WAAG and Bide Awhile Shelter helping animals, as well as being a perennial fixture at the dump in run, for as long as she was able. Dr. Gertrud Waseem is survived by her husband Muhammed; sons Rainer, Suhail and Arshard; her sister Doris Prechtl; her grandchildren Ryan, Irshard, Irene and Adeeb and 4 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her mother Loise (nee Becker) and Father Eugen Sprenger, her brother Kurt Sprenger. A visitation will take place on Monday May 22, 2017 from 2 pm to 4 pm in the Wolfville Serenity Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bide Awhile Animal Shelter in Halifax or WAAG. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, Wolfville Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville (902-542-4656).
