Berneda Mae Harvey (Smith), 84 of New Minas, passed away March 24, 2018 at the valley Regional hospital, Kentville. Born in Melanson, July 10, 1933, she was the eldest daughter of the late Basil and Emily (Schofield) Smith.
She was a member of the Wallbrook United Baptist Church, where she attended Sunday school and then later on taught Sunday School, also singing in the choir for many years. She taught a Busy Bee Club for girls, where they learned to knit and sew. Berneda was a great quilter, with many of her quilts being sent around the world. Besides quilting, her hobbies included gardening, knitting, crocheting, and needle work.
Berneda was President of the Regional Senior Games club for 3 years, President of the Gems and Jewels Senior club and played the role of "Santa" for 10 years during Christmas. She went to Mission Band, C.G.I.T, and Young Peoples. She had a big heart and was always doing for others.
Berneda married James Allison Harvey, November 24,1960. They lived a long and happy life together.
Besides her parents she was pre-deceased by brother Alex Smith; brother-in-law Gordon Harvey; sister Elva Williams.
Berneda is survived by her husband of 58 years James; son Roy (Heather) of Cambridge; daughters Andrea of Wolfville; Joy of New Minas; sister Gwendolyn of Kentville; two half twin sisters, Ellen (Jack) Bennet of ON, Ella (Dave) of ON; Sister-in-law Cheryl Davidson-Smith of Melanson; Grandchildren Alison Harvey (Josh) of Halifax, Amber Harvey (Andrew) of Grand Pre, Maggie Kalkman of New Minas, Trevor Kalkman of Berwick, Alex Kalkman of Coldbrook; a great grandson Matthew England of Grand Pre.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 27 2018, 6-8:00 pm at Serenity Wolfville Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville. Funeral service Wednesday, March 28 2018 at 2:00 pm, at the Gaspereau Baptist Church, Rev. Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Family flowers only. Memorial donations in Berneda's name may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Wallbrook Baptist Church.
