Obituary of Hazel Adelia Caldwell

Please share a memory of Hazel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Hazel A. Caldwell (Thorpe), 92 of Canningpassed away on Thursday, July 14 , 2022 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. She was born January 13, 1930, to the late Henry and Modenia (Butler) Thorpe, Scott’s Bay.

Hazel was a loving, caring and giving person. Her warm smile, gentle voice, wise advice and sense of wit will be deeply missed. She was a loving and thoughtful Grammie, who happily cared for her grandchildren at every opportunity she could find. She was thought of as a second mother by many who were welcomed into her home. Her caring and loving impact will be felt by many individuals in the generations to come.

Hazel worked as a School Teacher for a short time before she was wedded to Arthur Caldwell in 1949, when she then became a stay-at-home Mom and farmer’s wife. She was an active member of the Apostolic Church of Canada, where she played the piano/organ for many years. She also served as a volunteer for the Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation, and the Canadian Red Cross. She loved baking, gardening, reading, music and social gatherings.

She is survived by her children, Henry (Jeannette) Caldwell, Surrey, BC; Anne Chapman (Caldwell), Ottawa ON; Howard Caldwell, Canning; Jeanne (Kevin Piggott) Caldwell, Canning; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey, Melisa, Eric, Douglas, Matthew, Jasmine, and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Keira, Dawson, Bowen, Rowan and Miles; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Caldwell; her son, David Caldwell; her brothers, Merville and Emerson; and her sisters, Edith and Ora.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Grand View Manor, Berwick N.S. for their wonderful care of Mom over the last 2 years.
