Obituary of Wallace Norman Weir

It was with broken hearts we had to say goodbye to Wallace Norman Weir Jr., age 64, of Kempt Shore, NS. Wallace, known affectionately to friends and family as Wally, was a true hero and a beacon of inspiration throughout his life. Born on April 19, 1960, in the quaint town of Digby, Wally's journey was one of dedication, love, and helping others whenever he could. His life came to an unexpected end on September 7, 2024, after experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

Wally's years in Digby were filled with the warmth of a close-knit community. He was adored by many and a cherished son to his late parents, Wallace (“Nippy”) and Luella (MacLellan) Weir, and a loving brother to his late sister Aloma Andrews. His surviving brothers Bruce Andrews, Sandy Andrews, Peter Weir, Shaun Andrews, and sisters Joanne (Weir) Hatt, Karen (Weir) Thurber, Luella (Weir) Inglis along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, his daughter Tracy Weir, son Justin Weir, treasured grandson Orion Weir, his loving husband Brad Surette, and heartbroken dog Raphael, are left to continue loving and remembering him. Wally's kids, his grandson, his husband and dog were the cornerstone of his life, and the love they all shared was his guiding force.

Wally was a man who wore many hats, both literally and figuratively. As the assistant store manager for Conway Co-Op Society for 14 years, he demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication. His diverse work history also included roles as a truck driver, bookkeeper, jail guard, and service consultant/manager for Ellis Chevrolet where he received numerous rewards and praise for his service. But it was his stewardship of Jaggars Point Campground, where he nurtured 34 acres and 137 lots, and his final position maintaining the Super 8 Windsor hotel that showcased his skills and his ability to make connections and to bring people together. Wally was well respected in our community.

Outside of his professional life, Wally was a true handyman and always in his glory with the next project. Whether it was renovating our house, tinkering in the garage, puttering around the yard, the barn, or lovingly raising chickens on our little hobby farm Wally was always whistling or singing a song. Wally's ability to turn a shell of a house into a beautiful home was more than a skill—it was an act of love, transforming our space into a sanctuary filled with warmth and lasting memories to be cherished.

Wally's life was a testament to the Magick of ordinary moments turned extraordinary through the power of love and compassion. As the Dalai Lama once said, “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.” Wally embodied this spirit, approaching each day as a chance to love, to nurture, and to enrich the lives of those around him.

As we remember Wally, let us be reminded his soul has gone forward and entered the light and love of the Divine. Wally has ascended to a higher plane where he is continuing a spiritual existence. Although he has left this world, his light continues to shine in the hearts of those who knew him, inspiring us to live with purpose, to love with all our might, and to leave the world a little better than how we found it.

“Wally may those you leave behind find comfort and keep you in their hearts. And when it is time, may you also be there to guide us into the light. Your unconditional love will always be in my heart. I love you, Wally. Always and forever.” - Love Brad

A celebration of life will be held at the Super 8 Hotel in Windsor, NS on April 19, 2025, from 2pm-4pm. This day will also mark what would have been Wally’s 65th birthday. This was the only birthday he told me that I was expected to throw him a big party, and to make sure there was lots of cake. So please join us for the sharing of fond memories, some laughs, and of course lots of cake. All are welcome. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
