Obituary of Kenneth Maxwell Wilson

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kenneth Maxwell Wilson announce his passing at the age of 97. Ken or Mac, as he was commonly known as, passed away peacefully of November 23, 2024, in the Valley Regional Hospital. Born on January 17, 1927, in Windsor, NS, Ken was the son of the late Albert and Emily Wilson. In August 1952, Ken married the love of his life, Daisy Mae Ackroyd, they spent 67 wonderful years together before Daisy’s passing in February 2019.

Ken worked in various positions over many years, such as working at Minas Basin Pulp and Power, Fundy Gypsum Company and the Hantsport Fruit and Basket Company, all before retiring from The Canadian Keyes Fibre after 28 years. Ken was an active community member, having served in The Reserves for 14 years as well as being a longstanding member of The Royal Canadian Legion, serving as President of the Hantsport Lucknow Branch 109. Ken also served as President of The Navy League (Hantsport) from 1989 to 1995. In 1999 Ken was awarded the Life Membership Certificate for his outstanding service to The Royal Canadian Legion Lucknow Branch 109. Additionally, Ken was a devoted member of the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church and looked forward to attending church services.

Ken was very social, in their younger years, Ken and Daisy adored league bowling, dancing and camping. They would often take trips to New Brunswick to visit and spend time with family and friends.

Ken will always be remembered for his tender heart and his kind soul. He was a truthful and honest man who loved life and celebrating holidays, especially Christmas, with those he cherished. Those who knew him, hold fond memories.

Ken is survived by his five children, Rosemary (Starratt), David (Glenda), Tom (Sherri), Charlie and Janice (Ray); six grandchildren, Edwin, Stanley, Tia, Derrick, Charles and Ethan; several great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife, Daisy; brothers George, Ralph, Thomas “Tom”, and Albert “Alby”; as well as his sisters Emily and Dolly.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Hantsport on November 29, 2024, at 11:00 am followed by a burial in the Maplewood Cemetery, a reception will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion in Windsor. In lieu of flowers, Ken requested donations be made in his memory to The Red Cross or The IWK Children’s Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
