Obituary of Arno John Aalbers
Arno John Aalbers (Arnoldus Johannes Josephus Maria Aalbers), 74, of Owls Head, Nova Scotia, died suddenly Monday, December 23, 2024, at home. Born in Nijmegen, Netherlands, the son of the late Gerrit and Clementine Aalbers.
Arno was a multi-talented professional living and working in Saudi Arabia, India, Indonesia, Australia, Pakistan, and of course his beloved Canada.
Most recently he worked in carpentry and construction project management on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. He always enjoyed doing renovations and took pride in restoring old buildings to their former beauty. Arno loved his Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and was always up for an impromptu road trip with Rita, a direction and a map! He took a great deal of pleasure in fishing whenever the chance presented itself. When not engaged in outdoor activities, he was an avid reader and spent countless hours in that endeavor in recent years.
Arn is survived by his devoted wife of 17 years, Rita Hume; his daughter Sandra Aalbers-Ansley and son Matthew (Emily); stepdaughter Rebecca (Karim); his grandchildren Jayden, Colton, Braylen and Duke; his brothers Jac (Erika), Herman (Tig) and Marc (Deb); and many nieces and nephews. Arno is predeceased by his sister-in-law Bev.
Many thanks to the professionals of the 911 dispatch and first responders for their support, kindness and understanding on the night Arno passed. Our family would also like to thank his doctors, Dr. McFee and Dr. Rendon.
Cremation has taken place with arrangements being entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Dartmouth, NS. A celebration of life will take place at a future date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.
