Obituary of Florence Annabelle Haggerty
Florence Annabell (Coleman) Haggerty, 81 of Evergreen Nursing Home passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2025. Born in Steam Mill, Florence was the daughter of the late Leroy and Helen (Cotters) Coleman.
In her early years, Florence or as her family and friends would call her “Flo” or “Flossy” had been employed by Hostess Foods in New Minas for over 20 years, she had also retained employment at the Blomidon Inn as well as the Look-Off Campground. Florence enjoyed many things, especially Bingo with her sisters and playing cards at family gatherings. She took great pleasure in crafting such as Artex painting, knitting, cake decorating, and quilting. Florence was always there to lend a helping hand to her family and friends, whether it was making them a cake, a quilt, knitting them a sweater, helping with groceries or simply making them their favorite dessert, they never left without something in their hands or in their belly. It brought her great joy to give, even at the nursing home, she tried to give her meals to the staff.
After the death of her fiancé, Robert Whiston in 2015, Florence moved to New Minas with who her family would call “The Golden Girls”, for eight years she enjoyed getting together with her girls, until last year in which she spent at Evergreen, with the staff, who couldn’t help but love her.
“She was happy and funny, always making you laugh, I appreciate the love, kindness, compassion and gentleness mom received at Evergreen.”
Most precious to Florence were her grandchildren and her great grandchildren, they were her joy, her happiness and her world.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Glynis Weagle of Centreville; chosen daughters, Francis Baines of Wolfville and May ward of Centreville; sister Rose (Robert) Adams of New Minas; grandchildren, Thomas Carter of New Minas and Andrea Pulsifer of Waterville; chosen granddaughter, Vanessa Hutchinson; great grandchildren, Alexa Carter, Luna and Alex Pulsifer as well as many nieces and nephews.
