Obituary of Geraldine Joyce McLean

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Geraldine Joyce (Young) McLean of Big Tancook Island, Halifax and Chester, on February 5, 2025, at the age of 89. Geraldine was the daughter of Nellie (Baker) and Clarence Young.

She is survived by her son Tyrone (Amanda) McLean; three grandsons whom she adored Graidy, Carson and Connor; daughter-in-law Angela Brown McLean; and extended family Joan Drysdale and her daughters Valerie (McLean) Thibodeau and Deidre (McLean) Rainey.

Geraldine was predeceased by her son, Clarence Benjamin, at age 62, and her husband, James Keir, at the age of 58.  She was also predeceased by her brother Douglas Young.

Geraldine leaves a loving imprint in the hearts of her nieces and nephews, Heather (Young) O'Halloran, Terry Young, Joyce Montgomery Marlene McCarville, Marilyn Murphy, William Montgomery, Kenneth Montgomery and Scott Cousins.

Geraldine had a special bond with her cousin Shelly Cross and friends Joan Drysdale and Leonard Rafuse.  She formed many friendships during her 35 years working at Maritime Paper Products Ltd. and left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Geraldine could often be found crocheting blankets with someone in mind for her next project.  She always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye.

A heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Shoreham Village and to Heart to Heart where she lived the past five years.

Cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life will be held in the Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd, Halifax on February 15, 2025, at 2:00pm. With a reception to follow.
