Catherine Grant

Obituary of Catherine Margaret Grant

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Margaret Grant, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Catherine peacefully passed away on March 10, 2025, at Victoria General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Geraldine and Daniel “Rick” Forsyth, as well as her sisters, Debbie Forsyth and Darlene McDougall. Catherine is survived by her beloved husband, David Grant; her cherished daughter Leslieann Grant (Dexter Blackler); her adored son Justin Grant (Hailey Armitage ) and her treasured grandchildren, Zander and Khloe Blackler, who brought her immense joy.

Catherine is also survived by her sisters, Donna Dominix, Geraldine Baker and Anna Fleet; her brothers, Hollis Forsyth, Dicky Forsyth and Derek Forsyth and many nieces and nephews on both sides of her family. She was deeply loved by the Grant family, who embraced her as their own daughter and sister.

Born and raised in Halifax, Catherine began her career in the hospitality industry, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met at the Halifax Herald, Smitty’s, and the Prince George Hotel, where her warmth and impeccable service were her trademarks. Later, she dedicated the next 25 years of her life to healthcare, working with passion and care at Melville Heights and, for the last two decades, at Shannex.

Catherine’s commitment to her residents and co-workers was unwavering, her work ethic was unparalleled, and she did whatever was necessary to ensure the residents in her care were always treated with kindness and respect. She had a special relationship with the Sisters and members of the Caritas Residents.

She had the privilege of working alongside many wonderful co-workers, who became like family to her, and her positive attitude and dedication will be remembered by all who worked with her.

Catherine had a unique way of lighting up the lives of those around her. Her infectious smile, sharp sarcasm, and incredible sense of humor were true medicine for life. She embraced the world with a positive attitude and found joy in the simplest things, like cooking a turkey dinner on Sundays, enjoying a night out at the casino, playing Kingdom Hearts with her boys, and baking with Khloe. Catherine was an extraordinary mother, sacrificing and conquering whatever challenges came her way to provide for and take care of her family. Her compassion and work ethic were the foundation of her legacy and she instilled those same values in everyone around her.

A special thank you goes to Daren Grant, who visited Catherine every day and ensured her final wishes were carried out with love and care. We also wish to thank Sandy Grant for always being a great friend.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Rayson, Dr. Rutledge, Dr. Helyer and their staff, as well as 7A palliative care unit and compassionate care team for their outstanding care and support. Our family will forever be thankful for your help and kindness.

A gathering to celebrate Catherine's life will be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 1:00 to 2:30pm at the Shannex Caritas Residence, 215 Seton Road, Bedford, NS.
