Obituary of John Nelson
John Nelson, 84, passed away with loved ones by his side on March 19, 2025, in the Valley Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax on May 30, 1940, John was the son of the late Charles and Veronica (Blunt) Nelson.
Who better to tell the story of his life, than the man who experienced it himself wholeheartedly. The following is a beautifully crafted obituary that Mr. Nelson composed himself prior to his death.
“I was born in Halifax, May 30, 1940, under sunny skies and a smirk on my face, to Veronica and Charles Nelson. I went to Oxford and St. Pats; there I took part in all sports, and I was a member of the Glee Club. For a number of years after leaving school I worked at Nelson Feed Co., but I knew there was no future for me there so from 1962 to 1995 I went to work at the Camphill Hospital in a number of positions with 33 years of service, I loved Camphill, it was like a big family. I was Ward Master for some time and then went back to school and became an LPN and took over the management position of the Central Sterilization Department. I was never one to sit around so I took on a position as a school bus driver, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also coached Hockey in Spryfield, the Chebucto Atlantics.
I met my wife, Marie and fell in love at first sight. We had four beautiful children, which we were very proud of. They provided us with grandchildren which we gave lots of attention and love to, we attended all their concerts and numerous sports events.”
