Obituary of Owen George Foote

Owen George Foote, age 79 of Plympton, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2025. Born in Plympton April 18,1945

Owen left home in his teens to live and work in Ontario, following his dream to be a truck driver. In his 26 years in Ontario, he certainly fulfilled that dream, amassing millions of miles and awards for safe driving. Along the way he was persuaded to step up to dispatcher and then supervisor for various companies including Tremco Canada where he supervised shipments across North America. When the call of the east became too strong to resist, he and his wife Barb moved back to their forever home in Plympton. Unfortunately, Barb’s time was too short but the many friends they made stayed part of Owen’s life over the years. Owen was well known to be a people person and jumped at any opportunity to help others and to meet new people. Through his work at Marine Atlantic, Digby Pines, trucking and then with the Department of Transportation in Digby, not to mention his regular visits to Weymouth Legion, he continued to make an impression on many he met and won’t be easily forgotten. Some will certainly remember his passion for golf, fishing, hunting and ATVing.

Three daughters are left to miss Owen, Gwen Anger of Viking Alberta, Sandi Charbonneau of St. Margaret’s Bay NS and Debra Foote Stark of Wolfville NS. Owen was predeceased by his father George Foote and mother Marion (Thibodeau) Foote of Plympton, his wife Barb and later companion Dianne as well as his sisters Sheila (in infancy), Linda, Rose and brother Dave. Surviving are siblings, Martin (London ON), Gary (Yarmouth), Rick (Digby), Steve (Port Coquitlam BC), Brian (Weymouth), Faye (Airdrie AB), Brenda (Kelowna BC), Donna (Guelph ON) and Dean (London ON) as well as multiple grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

At this time the family would like to thank the caregivers who were so wonderfully kind and attentive to Owen during his recent adversities and to the nurses, doctors and other staff in Digby and Yarmouth hospital and the Halifax Infirmary. Many of these, especially Shirley, Linda and Alice, became close friends as well as caregivers and their contributions cannot be overstated.

There will be no public funeral per Owen’s wishes. Donations in memory can be made to the heart fund, cancer fund or organization of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Conway, NS B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
