Obituary of David Allen Dunham
Dunham, David Allen age 75 years of Lower Sackville. It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father and papa, Wednesday April 23/25 at the Dartmouth General Hospital with family by his side.
Born Sept. 06, 1949, in Lake Egmont. He was the son of the late Oscar and Nellie (McMullen) Dunham.
Dad began his trucking career in the 70’s, working as a company driver for Trimac. During these years he became an owner/operator, eventually moving on to Coastal Bulk Transport. Dad loved the open road, this encouraged him to become a long-haul trucker, working for SLH Transport and Global Transport, following the white lines of many highways throughout Canada and the United States.
Dad made many lifelong friends during his travels over the years, he really enjoyed talking about his many experiences and adventures which he encountered during his travels.
Dad was a volunteer bartender at the Sackville Legion when it first opened. This seemed to fit his personality perfectly as he loved to socialize and talk to many.
Later in life Dad enjoyed spending his time at home with family, especially being with mom, watching many of their favorite TV shows. This past year dad’s health declined, his strength and determination gave him the ability to fight a hard battle with COPD and Lung cancer for as long as he was able.
Dad will be sadly missed and forever loved by his children Carol Duggan, Lower Sackville, John Fleet, Lower Sackville, Doug (Belinda) Ecum Secum, Deborah (Tony) Cattral, Cole Harbour, Alana (Kevin) Smith, Upper Sackville and Allen (Melanie) Fall River, Along with 19 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren and two fur babies Patches & Willow who now reside with Allen and Melanie.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Donna, parents Oscar and Nellie (McMullen) Dunham, Brothers Fred, Keith, Archie, Sisters Jenny, Bonnie and Infant Great Granddaughter Isabelle Murphy Smith.
Dad was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Special Thank you to Doctors, Nurses and staff on 4 West and 5 West (Palliative Care) especially to Patti and Melissa at the Dartmouth General Hospital. You all showed dad so much care and compassion during this difficult time. Your kindness will always be remembered and appreciated.
Celebration of Life will take place on Friday May 09/25 at 11:00 am Sackville Legion Hall, 45 Sackville Crossroads, Lower Sackville, N.S Rev. Cathy Lee Cunningham officiating. Family burial will take place Saturday May 10/25 at 1:00pm at St. Paul’s United Church, 117 Lake Egmont Rd. Antrim N.S
