Obituary of Ronald Lloyd Maynard
In Loving Memory of Ronald Lloyd Maynard
August 3, 1930-April 23, 2025
With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother’s husband, affectionately known as, Grandpa Ron on April 23, 2025. Ron was born at home in Upper Newport on August 3, 1930. A cherished son of John and Muriel (Coldwell) Maynard.
He grew up in Ellershouse alongside his three sisters, Carol Mowat, Joan Borgel and Elinor Currie and his two brothers, Ernie and Basil, the latter of whom predeceased him. Ron had a love for music, that’s how he met our mother. Singing, playing both guitar and fiddle, and dancing for his own entertainment and the enjoyment of others as a volunteer at Dykeland Lodge. Ron was a hardworking man. He spent his career as a graduate machinist in various places- at a machine shop, a greenhouse and in the nickel mine, always with a strong work ethic and a quiet pride in a job well done. Ron was a man of humble means and a great heart, who found joy in life’s simple pleasures and gave freely of himself to those around him.
Ron often said he waited his whole life to find the right woman and in 1999, he married her. He and Vivienne Hazel Begin Maynard made beautiful music together, quite literally – Ron on the fiddle and Vivienne on the keyboard. As dance partners, they were nothing short of remarkable. Though Vivienne passed away in 2019, we trust they are now reunited, waltzing together across Heaven. Ron was a devoted husband, a caring stepfather to Debby (Bruce Shaw), Carolyn (Charles Hope), Tom (Faye Johnson) and Roxanna (Bruce Johanson)
“Ron, we will miss your music and your playfulness. But we take comfort in knowing you are at peace with your heavenly father – and with Viv once more.”
Thank you to the caring staff of Dykeland Lodge.
A graveside gathering will be held at the Scotch Village Century Cemetery to honour Ron’s life. An interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dykeland Lodge in Ron’s memory, a gesture he would have appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 198 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook, NS.
