Obituary of Philip Leroy Potter
The family of Philip LeRoy Potter, 73 of Bear River, is sad to announce his passing on July 18, 2025, in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital where he had been recently transferred after being in the QE II Hospital in Halifax for two weeks after suffering a heart attack. Born in Annapolis Royal on September 4th, 1951, he was the son of the late Loran and Mildred (Wright) Potter.
Phil, as he was known to his many friends, was a kind, caring and quiet, easy-going man. Until just recently you might have seen him as he made his daily walk to “town”. He was an associate member of the Bear River Legion where he will be well-remembered. He was a fixture of Bear River, living in the area his whole life. He was an avid reader, both fiction and non-fiction. The Toronto Blue Jays were his team to support. He would be so pleased to know how well they are doing now! He always attended the Cherry Carnival and could be seen around town talking to his buddies.
His working career started as a teenager with Clyde Baltzer’s Garage in Annapolis Royal. For a number of years he worked for Trynor Construction burying communication cable all over Nova Scotia. He also worked building homes for Bear River Furnishings in the area and later as a construction worker with DJ Lowe.
Phil is survived by his son Craig (Trudy Trimper) and grandchildren Ethan, Emma and Evan who affectionately called him “Baucha”, their version of Grandpa. His beloved cats Heidi, Samantha, Sam and Sophie were so special to him and got the best of care. His best friend Greg Ellis said that he cared for Phil like a brother and it was evident that the feeling was mutual. Also surviving are sister Gertrude (Bob Benson) of Bear River, brothers Harley (Faye) of Virginia East, Harry (Tanya) of Greenwood and Ross (Susan) of Cornwallis Park and Craig’s mother, Karna (Titus) Wright (Pat) of Smith’s Cove. His nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Phil will miss him.
In addition to his parents, Phil was predeceased by his sister Margie Cooper (late Ron), nephew Bradley Potter and long-time friends Wayne and Ronnie.
Special thanks to EHS and to the Critical Cardiac Unit at the QE II Hospital for their concerns and care.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 27 from 1-4 at Forester’s Hall in Clementsvale. All are welcome to share memories and stories. His ashes will be dispersed at a later date at a private family gathering. Donations in Phil’s memory may be made to the Bear River Legion or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 198 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook, NS (902) 679-2822.
