Obituary of Deborah Edna Bertaux
Deborah Edna Bertaux
January 19, 1950 – July 14, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Debbie Edna Bertaux announce her peaceful passing on July 14, 2025, at the age of 75. A long-time resident of Plympton, Digby County, Debbie will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and kind heart.
Debbie is survived by her loving children, Treena (Rory), Andrew (Laura), and Amanda. She was a proud grandmother to Logan, Kaylah, Aiden, Addison, and her bestie Emma, and a great-grandmother to little Katie.
She is also survived by her sisters: Lexine Wile, Betty Mailman, Shirley Davison (Charlton), Patricia Lewis (Jim), Joan Wood (Jake), and Linda De Graaf (Henk); her brother-in-law Leslie Mitchell; and her loyal little dog Zoe, who never left her side.
Debbie was predeceased by her beloved partner Lendall Melanson; her son Wil Bertaux; her son-in-law Richard Long; her parents, Leslie and Bonnie (Lake) Wile; sisters Judy Mitchell and Paulette Croft; brothers Owen Wile (and his wife Nancy) and Graham “Chubby” Wile (and his wife Reta); brothers-in-law Keith Lewis and Arthur Mailman; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
One of 11 siblings, Debbie grew up surrounded by the love and closeness of a large family, something she carried forward into her own life. She was a gifted cook and baker, known especially for her homemade desserts which became staples at many restaurants throughout the Digby area, where she also worked for many years as a waitress. Her warm smile and kind nature made her a familiar face and friend to many in the community.
Debbie had a creative spirit and a love for making beautiful things with her hands. She enjoyed tole painting, ceramics, knitting, and crocheting — always crafting something with love and care. She also found joy in gardening, especially in tending the flowers on her deck and around her property.
Debbie shared many happy years with Lendall, enjoying bike trips and attending rallies together, making lasting memories on the road.
As per Debbie’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Health Centre. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Conway, NS B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
