Obituary of Paulette Marilyn Mahar

The world grew quieter on July 24, 2025, as Paulette Marilyn Mahar departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and a lifetime of treasured moments. Born in Berwick on March 18, 1944, Paulette was the beloved daughter of the late, Hilton and Verna (Hiltz) Lacey.

A cherished wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, Paulette lived her life like a song, full of rhythm, soul and unforgettable moments.

At 17 years old, Paulette met the love of her life, Ron. At that time, she was employed at the Berwick Hospital, Later, she went on to work at Canard Poultry and Scotian Gold but the cold never quite suited her spirit so when Ron opened Mahar’s Sales and Service in Berwick,  Paulette, with determination and grace, returned to school to complete her grade 12, and later earned a degree in accounting as well as business and with that she worked alongside her husband to help support and grow the business they shared.

Together, Paulette and Ron shared not only a life of hard work and devotion to the Kingdom Hall, but also a deep love for adventure. When they weren’t building dreams side by side, they were off exploring the world – Taking countless trips to places near and far. Their travels took them to Las Vegas, on cruises and down to the warmth of Mexico, often bringing their children and grandchildren along to share in the joy. One of their most memorable trips included Ron buying an enormous Mexican hat – and with her wonderful sense of humor, Paulette lovingly teased him, saying that since he bought it, he’d have to carry it everywhere he went. They also made countless trips to Vermont, where they went picking apples, these trips became a beloved tradition. Her laughter, spirit, and the stories they created on those journey’s live on in the hearts of those who traveled alongside them.

Paulette and Ron were married for 63 beautiful years – and without hesitation, Ron said- “I’d marry her for 63 more”

Paulette was a firecracker of truth wrapped in the warmth of unconditional love; she would do anything for just about anyone. She had a vibrant social spirit and cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, she found joy in the laughter with her friends as well as her family and the hugs of her grandchildren, who held the most special place in her heart. Paulette had a zest for life and embraced every moment with joy and purpose. Her guidance was firm when needed but always rooted in deep love and compassion.

At just 12 years old, Paulette received her first guitar, a gift from her father that would spark a lifelong love for music. With a natural ear and unwavering passion, she taught herself to play and quickly became known for bringing her guitar wherever she went. Paulette could play for hours, she played at many events and alongside her cousin, Diane Davis (Lutz) they had the opportunity to perform on AVR. In time her musical talents expanded to include the mandolin, adding another beautiful layer to her love of song.

A woman with many talents and treasured pastimes, she embraced each hobby with heart and purpose. With Ron always having a large garden she was continually busy making use of its abundance, turning fresh fruits and vegetables into delicious meals, preserves and memories shared around the table. Ron even taught her how to knit, a skill she quickly mastered and passed on to her daughters, creating a legacy of creativity and care stitched into every scarf and blanket. Paulette also had a remarkable talent for ceramics, pouring her love and creativity into every piece she crafted. One of her most cherished creations was a miniature ceramic van she made for her husband, Ron – a perfect replica of their beloved camping van. Every detail was thoughtfully sculpted by hand, that little ceramic van became a treasured symbol of their bond and the cherished life they built together.

Paulette lived a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear. Her legacy lives on in every jar of jam passed down, every note of music played, every stitch lovingly taught, and every memory shared by her husband, children, grandchildren and all who had the joy of knowing her even her sweet tooth was legendary, Though she may no longer be by our side, her spirit – full of warmth, strength and joy, will continue to guide and inspire, just as she did in life, Paulette will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever cherished.

Paulette’s legacy lives on through her cherished husband, Ron Mahar; her dearly loved daughters, Rhonda (Andy) Spencer and Tamara Mahar; her treasured grandchildren, Melissa (Mike) Vautour, Brandon (Anna Bello) Spencer, Desiray (George) Church, and Codi (Theresa) Keddy; and her adored great grandchildren, Lucas and Alexa Vautour, Aiden and Wesley Church, Sophie and baby girl Keddy, who will soon be welcomed into the world.
