Obituary of Faye Violet Lottie Deveau
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Faye Violet Lottie Deveau (Cann), 82 of North Range Digby Co. Faye passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, in the Villa D’aLa Baie, Meteghan due to complication with dementia. Faye was the daughter of the late George Cann of Yarmouth Co. and Florence Ida Haight of North Range Digby Co.
Faye was a remarkable woman with a heart of gold, deeply loved by her family. She was kind, caring, fun-loving, and strong — someone who never met a stranger. Her door and her heart were always open, and she cherished every chance to laugh and chat with those who stopped by, especially while sitting on her favorite place — the porch.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether it was listening to timeless classics or country music on the radio, playing solitaire, or working on crosswords and puzzles. Over the years, Faye also enjoyed reading, journaling, gardening, and expressing her creativity through drawing, painting beautiful flowers and animals on old milk jars and plant pots, and making crafts with plastic canvas. Faye was also a dedicated worker, holding many jobs throughout her life until retirement. Along the way, she built countless friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Faye and her family spent countless cherished summers camping at the Fish and Game, a tradition that began in the early 1980s and continued into the late 2000s. Some of her happiest memories were made there alongside her Yarmouth Doucette clan and the many fun-loving campers who quickly became lifelong friends.
Faye loved being part of the community and often volunteered at the hall — helping with dances, karaoke nights, and in the kitchen during events. She especially enjoyed the lively card parties and the many evenings filled with guitars, singing, and laughter, surrounded by both old friends and new ones who joined in on the fun.
Faye enjoyed relaxing with her favorite television shows, especially game shows, soap operas, and murder mysteries. She was also a true animal lover, caring deeply for the many cats and dogs she had throughout the years, as well as the wild birds she loved to watch. To her family, Faye was more than special — she was our rock. She loved us all unconditionally and with her whole heart, and we loved her just the same. She was our go-to person, always ready to listen, to help, and to lift our spirits with her laughter. Even during her most difficult days with dementia, Faye’s wonderful sense of humor shone through, blessing us with smiles and good chuckles that we will always treasure.
Faye settled into Villa d’La Baie with ease about 14 months ago, where she was blessed to have her husband by her side almost every day — spending hours with her, keeping her company, and helping the staff with her care. She truly enjoyed the many activities offered there, especially when musical guests would visit; Faye delighted in singing along and could still remember the words to so many songs.
Her days were brightened by visits from family and friends, and during her time at the Villa she also formed new friendships, including with the caring staff who not only looked after her but also shared many heartfelt chats with her.
The family of Faye would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers and staff at Villa d’La Baie for their kindness and dedication, as well as a special thank you to Dr. Chandler and Dr. Melanson for the excellent care they provided.
Our precious Faye, with her big, beautiful smile, will be deeply missed and forever cherished by us all.
In addition to her parents, Faye was predeceased by her son, Steven Alan Moore.
Faye is survived by her devoted husband, Bernard Deveau; daughters, Angie (Jimmy) Handspiker of Digby and Michelle Moore of Digby; grandson, Shawn (Nicole) of Halifax; step-grandson, Eric (Tanya) Amon of New Glasgow; granddaughters, Jennifer (Angela) Handspiker-Berrette o f Halifax, Rachel (Shawn) of Halifax, Cassie Moore of Digby, Kristian Moore of Digby and Megan (Dylan) Doucette-Lombard of Digby as well as her 14 great-grand children.
