Obituary for Barry William Parsons
Parsons, Barry William of Eastern Passage passed away on October 6, 2025 at the age of 64 after a seven-year battle with brain cancer. Just as with everything in his life, Barry was very determined and fought to the end to defeat this disease.
Born in Summerside, Barry was the son of David William and Caroyn Yvonne (Miller) Parsons. He trained to be a machinist at the NS Community College and started his career at the Halifax Dockyard. The path he chose reflected his enjoyment of working with his hands. In 1996, he went to work for Pratt & Whitney in Enfield where he stayed until the end of his career. Here he made close friends, many of which supported him right to the end.
Barry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snow-mobiling with his father and only brother, Greg, as well as his Aunt Sue, Uncle Jim and cousins Christine and Rebecca (who were more like sisters to him) along with their families. He chose to spend his days off work with family, often at Sherbrooke Lake, where he enjoyed helping everyone with building projects and repairs. In everything he did, the finished product had to be exactly right. His Uncle Jim would say, “Barry wasn’t finished until it was purrrrfect!”
Shortly after being diagnosed, Barry became a passionate pool player, joining the Metro Pool League and spending many evenings at Dooley’s on Portland Street. Here he developed countless friendships and was supported by many, including the staff.
Barry is survived by his mother Carol, his brother Gregory (Kathy) Parsons and their children Megan (Brendan) Wakeham and Kaitlyn Parsons. He also survived by his cousins Christine Wentzell, her children Zackary and Madison, as well as Rebecca (Shane) Reagh and their son Cole. Barry was predeceased by his father David Parsons, his uncle and aunt James and Sue (Miller) Wentzell.
There will be a gathering to honor Barry at Dooley’s located at 590 Portland Street, Dartmouth on Wednesday October 15th at 7PM. A celebration of life gathering for family and close friends will be set at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada or the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia particularly targeting youth struggling with anxiety issues.
The family would like to express special appreciation to the team at the Cancer Treatment Centre at the VG Hospital, the staff at Kinross Hall at Parkland Estates, and the staff of units 7.2 and 7.4 at the Halifax Infirmary, where he spent his final days.
