Obituary of Gene Raymond Daniel
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of Gene Raymond Daniel of Fraxville, New Ross N.S. announce his passing on Wednesday November 12, 2025. At the age of 99 he passed peacefully at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater N.S surrounded by his family. The last surviving member of his immediate family.
As a young boy he worked the family farm, attended the Fraxville School, and at the age of 9 started teaming oxen as he helped build the family Coopershop. Over the years he held various jobs as a laborer including driving gravel truck, hauling Christmas trees, you could say he was a highway man too, when the New Ross road, the 103 Hwy and the Barrens Road were paved. St. Mary’s University can thank Dad for their beautiful green lawns, no one else on the worksite in 1952 knew how to sew grass seed by hand. In the mid-fifties he also spent a few summers picking tobacco in Delihi, Ontario. And yes, his back did ache. While working at the Ross Farm he found his niche, he was able to share his knowledge, love of cattle, farming and stories with people of all ages from all over.
As a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather he has been our protector, guardian, teacher, inspiration, provider, listener, storyteller, friend and “social butterfly.” Dad didn’t tell us how to live; he lived and let us watch him do it. He and Mom shared true love that never wavered, he still remembers the first time he laid eyes on her, and what she was wearing, it was love at first site.
He was predeceased by “6 brothers and 1/2 dozen sisters.” Born in Fraxville on April 22, 1926, to Raymond and, May (Huntley) Daniel. Predeceased by brothers Joseph, Charlie, Thomas, Cecil, Medford and Henry and sisters Esther, Sarah, Edith, Florence, Olive, Nancy, and baby at infancy.
Survived by his precious “Beautiful wife Margaret, of 71 years.” The Girls” Carolyn (Brian McIsaac) Halifax, and Katherine (Pat Conway) Lakeside. Grandson Daniel (Melodie Cole) Rawdon, Grand Daughter Danielle, (Daniel Mack) Lower Sackville. 5 Great Grandsons Raiden Conway-Mack, Alexander Conway-Mack, James Cole, Oliver Conway-Mack, and Jesse Cole.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, New Ross Chapel, 4935 Highway 12, New Ross where a visitation will be held on Friday, November 14th, 2025 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
