McCabe, John Austin, 64, Coldbrook, Nova Scotia, passed away on November 24th, 2007 at the Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Dublin, Ireland, John was the son of the late Kathleen (Flynn) and Thomas McCabe. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband and an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a great storyteller who always had a twinkle in his eye, and was always there to help anyone he could.. Even when he was afflicted with his disease, John showed concern for others and accepted his fate with great strength. He thoroughly enjoyed the arts, speaking Irish Gaelic, writing poetry, spending time with his family, walks in the country with his friends and a good game of golf. John came to Canada in 1967, moved to Nova Scotia in 1981, and settled in the Valley in 1987. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mari; son, Trevor, Calgary, Alberta; daughter, Tara (Erich) Newcombe, Coldbrook, NS; grandsons: Nolan, Braedan and Dylan; brothers: Tom (Marie) Vancouver, BC; Pat, Calgary, Alberta; sisters: Rosealeen Tighe, England; Pauline Tully, Albany, New York; Peggy (Pat) Goulding, Dublin, Ireland; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Phyllis Osborne, Dublin and an infant sister, Kathleen. There will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at St. Joseph??s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Father Craig Christenson officiating. Interment at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in John??s memory may be made to the Parkinson Society Canada, Maritime Division, Halifax or to Grandview Manor, Berwick .
