Obituary of Ronald Vernon Haight

Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Ronald Vernon Haight, age 79, on September 15, 2023, in the Digby General Hospital. Born October 3, 1943, in Bloomfield, Digby County, he was the eldest son of the late Vernon and Adelia (VanBuskirk) Haight.

Ron was an electician and wiring inspector employed by Nova Scotia Power for over 30 years before retiring.

From early childhood Ron had a love for trains of all sizes, he was an avid model train enthusiast and a member of the MFMR Association. A special highlight for him was travelling on the final run of the DAR Dayliner train round-trip from Yarmouth to Halifax in 1990, before service was discontinued.

Ron enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, and writing a few songs of his own. He also had a lifelong passion for reading and learning about a variety of subjects including history, genealogy, science, gardening, and music.  He was also a diligent student of the Bible, and as a member of the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, enjoyed sharing the many truths he learned about God with others.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Colleen (Benedict); son, Jared, Bloomfield; siblings, Rosina, Bloomfield; Merwin (Wanda), Lansdowne; Julia (Edward “Sonny”) Bernard, Bloomfield; aunt, Lois Nesbitt (Haight), Bloomfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his brother, Eldon, in infancy; and son, Davin.

Thanks to the many doctors and nurses in Digby, Yarmouth, and Halifax hospitals who were involved in Ron’s care in recent years. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses who extended themselves so much in the last week at Digby General Hospital, especially Melissa who changed her schedule to go with him in the ambulance to Yarmouth.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 179 Beechwood Lane, Conway.
