Obituary of Myrna Melvin

It is with sad hearts the family of Jessie “Myrna” Melvin, age 80, of Canning, announce her passing in Valley Hospice, Kentville on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late David Wood and Annie (Oakden) Wood.  She was the last surviving member of her family.

Myrna was a loving mother and Nan to her family. She loved baking and spending time with her family and friends. She loved bingo, music jams, life, and a new born baby brought her great joy. She always had a smile on her face and was the kindest lady. She worked many years on a farm. 

Myrna is survived by her cherished children, George (Cheryl) Melvin, Pereau; Dale (Barb) Melvin, Sheffield Mills; Patricia "Theresa" (Eric) Woolaver, New Minas; June Melvin (Marlon Beckford), New Minas; and Ann Marie (Kevin) Morgan, Canning; grandchildren, Danny (Lynn), Brett (Lee Ann), Tyler, Kodey (Mandie), Jeffery (Kathleen), Jesse (Amanda), Kolby, Dustin, Stacie (Kevin), Brandy, Denise (Robbie), Sarah (JR), Jillian, Sheena (Ian), Ashley (Lukeland), Tanya (Jeff), Nichole (Adam) and Shelby (Adrian); great-grandchildren, Hunter, Charlie, Brady, Brooklyne, Kelsea, Jordan, Cohen, Riley, Sophie, Easton, Kyrah, Danique-a, Lukeland "LJ", Ronique, Markland, Colton, Caleb, Hayden, Kaylee, Adam, Brantley, Madalyn, Ryder, Rayne, Laylah, Adalynn, Blake, Brielle, Aubree and Jaxson; great-great-grandson, Parker; sisters-in-law, Valetta Wood, Verna Wood, Shirley Wood, and Marlene Wood; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Myrna was predeceased by sons, Gordon "Gordie" and Wayne Melvin; brothers, Harold, Shirley, Foster, and William “Willie”; sister, Mildred Brown; and brother-in-law, Gordon Brown.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 11:00 am  in the Serenity Funeral Home, Coldbrook. Interment will take place May 9, 2024 at 6:00 pm in the Hillaton Cemetery. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Valley Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
