Obituary of Catherine Stewart McIntosh Stubbs

Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with the greatest sadness that we inform of the passing of a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Catherine Stewart McIntosh (Briscoe) Stubbs.  She passed away peacefully in her sleep in Mountain Lea Lodge in Bridgetown on February 15, 2024.  Born October 15, 1930 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, she was the daughter of the late Catherine and Wallace Briscoe.

Cattherine moved to Dundee, Scotland, with her mother when she was four years old and embraced her life as a “Scotsman”.  During World War II, she lived for a couple of years in the South of England where the children was shielded from the bombing of all the seaports, Dundee being one. As a teenager Catherine loved to ballroom dance and she danced to some of the Big Bands of the time. She continued to dance all through her teens where she met her husband of 55 years, Ian Stubbs; they were certainly a sight to behold together on the dance floor.

In 1963, Catherine returned to Winnipeg, Manitoba, with her husband and four children, and made many Scottish friends through the Thisle Soccer Club. In 1981, she moved with her husband to Clementsport, where she became a member of the Peace Keeping Centre, here she made many new friends from Nova Scotia and of the Peacekeepers in many countries.

“Catherine loved to dance, loved music, loved life,  and loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.
SCOTS WHA HAE Mother, Rest in Peace until we all meet again.”

Catherine will be remembered by her daughters,  Karen (Ben) Dufresne, and Jacqueline Kendall; sons, Roy Stubbs, Ian (Iris) Stubbs; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was predeceased by her loving husband, Ian Stubbs; brother, Wallace Briscoe; sister, Helen Briscoe; and one grandchild.

Cremation has taken place. Interment will be held in the summer in the Pioneer Gardens Cemetery, Oromocto, New Brunswick.  Memorial donations may be made to the the charity of one’s choice.
