Obituary of Donald Lee Eagles

Donald Lee Eagles, 85 of Berwick, Kings Co., died peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on April 7, 2009. Born in Port Williams on October 19, 1923 he was the oldest of the six children of Nathaniel & Julia (Eaton) Eagles.

He started a career in banking at the age of 15, that was interrupted by his service in the RCAF during the Second World War. Returning to banking after the war, he worked in Trinidad and Montreal before coming home to Nova Scotia. He moved his growing family to Kingston in the mid - 1950's where he worked as a bookkeeper for several area businesses and then as manager of the Greenwood Credit Union. In the mid - 1960's he earned his teaching certification and joined the faculty at Kings Regional Vocational School, Kentville, where he taught for more than twenty years. He moved his family to Wolfville in 1976 and lived there until relocating to Berwick in 2005.

A loving and devoted family man, Don was an avid reader, loved travel, music and the outdoors.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Arthur (in infancy) and Douglas; sisters, Ruth and Jean.

He is survived by Ethel(Grant), his beloved wife of almost 57 years,; sister, Shirley (Stephenson), Montreal; sons, Robert, PEI and Munroe (Deborah Scott), New York; daughters, Annalee (Cole), Bridgetown; Lorna Ottawa; six grandchildren, Nathan, Tyrone, Shawn Anthony, Graeme and Devon; two step-grandchildren, Katie and Scott More; one great-grandchild.

Cremation has taken place under the care & direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook. A memorial service will be held in Grand View Manor, Berwick on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 3:00 p.m.. Rev. Elizabeth Johnson assisted by Rev. Dr. Judith Saunders will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date. Family flowers only. Anyone wishing to make donations in Don's memory should forward them to the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.
