79, Wolfville, passed away suddenly Wednesday November 11, 2009 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Port Maitland., he was a son of the late Harvey and Pearl (Durkee) Ellis. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Vernon was a graduate of Acadia University School of Music and Eastman School of Music. His life was devoted to the teaching of music, first at Middleton High School. Nova Scotia Teachers College, NS Dept of Education, Dalhousie University and Acadia University (Dean of the School of Music) and retiring as professor. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his many family and friends. Vernon is survived by his companion and best friend, Bill Smith, Wolfville; niece, Sandy Sharpe, Collingwood, Ont.; nephews, Grant Patten; Lynn Patten, of Collingwood, Ont., Tim Patten, Calgary, Alb.; Alan (Mona) Ellis, Dartmouth; Bruce Ellis, Lake George; Steward (Mary) Ellis, Port Maitland; several grand nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Vernon was predeceased by brothers, Clifford, Lyle and Jesse; sister, Irene. There will be no visitation by the family's request. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday November 16 in Manning Memorial Chapel, Acadia University. Chaplain Virginia Cookman officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Darling Lake Cemetery, Yarmouth Co. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of H.C. Lindsay Funeral Homes 568 Main St. Wolfville, N.S.
