89, Port Williams, entered eternal glory on Friday, October 2, 2009. Born in Halifax on December 1, 1919, to the late Ernest and Winnifred (Redmond) Bendell, she was the last remaining member of her immediate family. After her marriage to Otis Gates in 1944, she moved to Port Williams and lived in the same home until her passing. Following Otis' death in 1972, she began working as practical nurse. Her family was her life and being together brought her much joy. She took great pleasure in baking and had a generous heart for sharing everything she had. She was a member of the Port Williams Seniors, Woman's Missionary Society, The Loyal Workers, St. John's Anglican Church, and was an adherent of Port Williams United Baptist Church. She will be deeply missed by her only son, David and his wife Sharon, Moncton, N.B.; and daughters, Janet, Port Williams, her wonderful care giver to the end, and Phyllis and her husband Bob McKay, Kentville, as well, her beloved god-daughter, Sandra (Jim) MacLennan, Halifax. She was a loving grandmother to her devoted grandson, Craig (Deborah-Lynn), and beautiful granddaughters, Angela (Bill), Leesa, Loree-Beth, Amy (Mike), and Wendy (Michael). As well, she had precious great-grandchildren, Jessica, Max, Heidi Rose, Benjamin, Sophia, and Mallory; and several nieces and nephews. Visitors are welcome Monday from 6- 9 p.m. in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, from Port Williams United Baptist Church, Rev. David Ogilvie and The Reverend David Garrett officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Anglican Church cemetery, Port Williams. A time of fellowship will be held in Lockwood Hall following the service. Donations in her memory can be made to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers from the VON who over the last few months brightened her days with their visits, the wonderful staff of Valley Regional Hospital, faithful Pastoral care and the kindness of friends and neighbors. Arrangements are under the care of H.C. Lindsay Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville NS B4N 2K5 (902-678-2151).
