Of Berwick, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by family members. Born in Spry Bay, Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late Sydney and Catherine (MacDonald) Leslie. Eileen was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish, Berwick, and was a former member of the C.W.L. She had been involved with the Victorian Order of Nurses Meals on Wheels Program and the "Rainbow Dancers" Square Dancers. She was a devoted wife and mother. Surviving are a son, Stephen Heffler, New Glasgow; daughters, Marie (Scott) Percival, Brampton, Ont.; Janet Heffler, Bedford; Celeste Heffler, Ottawa, Ont.; grandchildren, Jamie, Kristy, Ryan, Riley and Aaron; brothers, Lloyd Leslie, Ottawa, Ont.; Bernard Leslie; sister, Gertrude Hollett, Petawawa, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Joseph Heffler; brothers, St. Clair, Edgar, Roy, James "Melvin". A Prayer Service will take place 6:30 p.m., Friday, followed by visitation from 7-9 p.m., Friday, both in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 120 Mill Street, Berwick. Rev. Fr. Sean Cahill officiating, with burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
