92, of Wolfville, passed away peacefully into the arms of God on Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Born Hilda Ethleen Marguerite Jacobson, in New Carlisle, Quebec, to Henry Edward Jacobson and Charlotte Grace Chatterton on September 10, 1916. After earning her teaching degree at MacDonald College in Quebec, she taught briefly at Baie Comeau High School in Baie Comeau, Quebec. She married her beloved husband, the late Jack Bigelow Hastie, son of Christopher (of Canso) and Hazel Hastie and brother to Jean Hastie of Wolfville. She had two children, John Christopher Hastie, now of Wolfville and Kathryn Jean (Hastie) Doughty, now of Sharon, Vermont. She was grandmother to Alex Hastie and Ennaea Currie, and mother-in-law to Aunah Hastie. Jake vacationed with Jack, Kathryn and John annually at Evangeline Beach, loving to dine at Sterlings restaurant. She moved to Wolfville permanently in 1973. A devoted Christian, she was a member of the Wolfville Baptist Church. She loved to sing, dress in fine clothes and eat good food. Completing the Chronicle Herald's lexicon puzzle was an important weekly activity, hoping that one day she would be the winner. She loved her children dearly and was a devote believer in herbal medicine for good health. The last member of her family, Jake was predeceased by her siblings Reta, Clyde, Annie, Florence and Jim. Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home 568 Main St., Wolfville (902-542-2151). Her celebration of life service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, April 25 at the Wolfville Baptist Church, with burial at Willowbank Cemetery - all are welcome. Reception at the home of John Hastie, 35 Minas View Drive, Wolfville. Given that she died on Earth Day and loved flowers, memorial donations would be gratefully appreciated for the beautification of the gardens in Willow Park, Wolfville per the Town of Wolfville, 359 Main St, Wolfville, Nova Scotia B4P 1A1, in her name.
