Obituary of Edna Hazelwood
Please share a memory of Edna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
100, Berwick, Kings Co. passed away peacefully Monday December 17, 2007, at home. Born in South Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret Pelton. Edna was educated in South Berwick and became one of the early female career people, being a typesetter for the Berwick Register for several years - no easy task when you had to be an excellent speller and set the type backwards. She started a new career by marrying Boyd Hazelwood and becoming a housewife and loving mother. Again, no easy job rearing and caring for eight children and a husband. Being the family matriarch, her advice and loving counsel was sought by all her family. If a grandchild wanted to save money for a special purpose, he/she would give it to their grandmother for safekeeping. Edna was an expert in making date squares, sewing, knitting, embroidery & needlework, and her joy in later years and up to the time of her death was her crocheting. Almost every family member can point to a priceless creation given to them with love and a big happy laugh. She enjoyed playing scrabble and was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all of her survivors. Surviving are daughters, Sylvia (Charles) Wagstaff, Donna Aker, all of Berwick; son, Harley Hazelwood, Dartmouth; daughter-in-law, Madeline Hazelwood, Kingston; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Boyd Hazelwood; daughter, Audrey Hazelwood; sons, Delma, Gerald Curtis & Wylie Hazelwood; daughter-in-law, Kay Hazelwood; son-in-law, Robert Aker; two grandchildren; brother Lloyd Pelton; sister, Susan Pelton. Visitation will take place 2-4 p.m. Wednesday in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service will take place 1 p.m. Thursday December 20. Rev. Marilyn Rose officiating, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to any charity.
