A Halifax Explosion survivor, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2008. She was born in Halifax on October 3, 1917, to Nelson and Annie (Judge) Vidito. Mildred lived her entire life in the Annapolis Valley until moving to Maplestone Nursing Home in Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice Hiltz; her parents; sisters, Jean Wilson, Dorothy Pierce, Violet Dempsey, and brother, Fred Vidito. She is survived by children, Ronald Hiltz and his wife Alice, Yarmouth; daughters, Esther Breckenridge, New Hampshire; Pearl Livingston, Halifax; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mildred is also survived by brother, Howard Rex Vidito, Kingston; sisters, Ruby Bennett, Auburn, and Barbara Ridgeway, Greenwood, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mildred was always a willing community worker and will be remembered by friends and family for her great knitting, sewing and cooking skills. H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, Berwick, is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services for immediate family only will be held in St. Mary's Anglican Church Cemetery in Auburn, with Rev. Charles Bull officiating. The family would like to thank Dr. Barbara Poranek and all the staff at Maplestone Nursing Home who cared so wonderfully for our mother over the years.
