Obituary of Harold Henshaw

83, of Habitant, at his daughter's home in Berwick, died February 19, 2009, after a brief illness. Born in Yarmouth, April 21, 1925, he was predeceased by parents, M. Jean (MacQuarrie) and Vaughan Henshaw; brother, Donald, and his beloved wife of 48 years, Edith (Lockwood). Left to mourn are daughters, Barbara (Cory Kent), Linda (Scott Tanner), Paula (Pierre Lessard); son, Harold (Beverley Maziarz); nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; sister, Jean Dole; extended family and his many friends. He was a proud Veteran of the Second World War and served with the North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment at the Battle of the Scheldt in Holland. He was active in regiment reunions and Remembrance Day ceremonies including the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation of Holland, a trip shared with his son, Harold. A highlight for Dad was the Year of The Veteran VIA Rail Troop Train excursion to Ottawa for Remembrance Day ceremonies which he shared with his two best friends from his Regiment. We were proud of his featured participation in the ATV award winning production of that memorable trip entitled "A Sentimental Journey." He was a heavy duty mechanic in Kitchener, Ont. before moving to Parrsboro in 1974. As an employee of Atlantic Air Cooled Engines, Moncton, he was a small engine mechanic, teacher and salesman. An avid hunter and artisan, his wonderful skills, ready smile and jokes touched the lives of so many. The family wishes to thank Dr. Adam Clarke for his compassionate care. Funeral services have been entrusted to H.C. Lindsay Funeral Homes, 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville, N.S. (902-678-2151). Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 24, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, February 25, at 2 p.m. in the Emmanuel United Church, Kingsport. Rev. Wayne Mitton will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, King's County Victorian Order of Nurses, or charity of your choice.
