Howard, Allen Frederick " Al " - 78, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009, in the V.G. Site, Q.E. II, Halifax. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he was a son of the late Sidney and Mildred (Wright) Howard. Al had been employed with the Canadian Pacific Police in Winnipeg for 10 years. He then worked for A.G.T., in Alberta from 1954-1987, and upon his retirement moved to Berwick. Al was a long-time member of the Berwick & District Lions Club, holding every office including secretary for nine years. He was a former member of Valley Lodge # 90, A.F. & A.M., Berwick and the Masonic Lodge in Calgary. Al was well known in Berwick as a Cross Walk Guard for 14 years. Al enjoyed travelling especially his trip to Thailand. Surviving are his wife, Lois (Chesley) Howard, Berwick; sons, Richard (Lynn) Howard, Winnipeg; Robert (Alice Henriksen) Howard, Bedford; daughters, Jo-Anne (Rick) Palanuk, Winnipeg; Kimberley (Derek) MacDonald, Berwick; grandchildren, Christopher (Deanna) and Stephen Howard; Adam and Andrew Palanuk; Devan, Mackenzie, Sydney and Hannah MacDonald; great-grandchildren, Riley, Bailey and Sydney Howard; sister-in-law, Terry Howard, Kamloops, B.C. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Howard. Visitation for Al will take place 7-9 p.m., Thursday, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where a Lions Memorial Service will take place 6 p.m., Friday, December 4. Burial will take place in the Berwick Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to any charity.
