81, Kentville, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2008, in Evergreen Home for Special Care, were he resided. Born in Lower Canard, he was a son of the late Frederick and Gladys MacGowan. Carl served with the Canadian Armed Forces and retired after 29 years, serving in Rockcliffe, Ont., Quebec, 3rd and 4th Wing, Germany, Greenwood, Cold Lake, Alta. and Summerside, P.E.I. He was a founding member of Argus Lodge, Greenwood, and Airisle Masonic Lodge, Summerside. He was Past Master and Life Member of Scotia Lodge, Canning, and was a member and former Elder of Trinity United Church, Canning. Carl loved woodworking, nature, riding his bike and helping his neighbours, and he looked forward to his daily walks. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Carl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Valerie (Holt); son, Jim, Dartmouth; daughters, Nancy (Robert) Naylor, Blind Bay, Halifax Co., and Karen (John) Kennedy, New Glasgow; brother, Ralph, Kentville; sister, Ina Saunders, Ontario; grandchildren, Christopher Kennedy, Ryan Kennedy, Laura and Carolyn Naylor. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Lester. There will be no visitation. A Masonic service will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, both in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville (902-678-2151), with Rev. Dr. Randy Crozsman officiating. Burial will take place in Jawbone Corner Cemetery, Canard. Family flowers only please.
