It is with great sadness to announce the loss of Bessie MacDonald, a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She died peacefully surrounded by family on October 15, 2007, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after a short battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dan, in 2000 after 50 years of marriage. They shared their lives, work and love of their family. Their home was a gathering place for friends and extended family, where their generosity, kindness and love knew no bounds. She was a dedicated mother to Josie (Mike), Bridgetown; Donna (Tony), Calgary; Jessie (Willie), Saskatoon; Danny (Karen), Kentville; Wayne, Bridgetown; Patricia (Gordon), Coldbrook; Heather (Kelly), Waterville; Allan (Joan), Wolfville. Blessed were the times with a hot cup of tea, homemade baking and a good story. Nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren. They include Josh, Kyle, Alexandra, Jacqueline, Connor, Erin, Morgan, Jessica, Kellcee, Jakkob, Alexander, Jeremy, Katie, Emma, and great grandchild, Jayla. She would light up when they entered her room. Besides her loving family, Bessie is survived by her brothers, Walter, Ontario; Johnny, Centreville; Allan, Springhill; Ronald, Ernest and Frank, all of Canning. She was predeceased by her husband, Dan; sisters, Elsie, Frances, and Marguerite; brothers, Cecil, Charles, Harvey, Carl, and Donald. She also leaves behind Edi, who was a constant companion and a dear friend. Visitation for Bessie will be today from 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville, 902-678-2151. A funeral service will be celebrated Thursday, October 18, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belcher Street, Kentville, Father Craig Christenson officiating, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Coldbrook.
