82, of Wolfville, passed away at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday March 29, 2008. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Coldwell) Salsman. Franklin was a farmer. He helped operate Salsman & Sons, Ltd., a painting/decorating business. For over 40 yrs, he ran an apartment rental and snow plowing business. He was a master of many trades and willing to help anyone in need. He was an avid gardener, sharing the bounty with neighbors and friends. He had a great love for horses and competed in local exhibitions. Franklin was a member of the Odd Fellows group for over 58 yrs. He will be sadly missed by his many family and friends. Franklin leaves behind his wife of 56 yrs, Lorraine (Woodman) Salsman; daughters, Marlene (Don) Barkhouse, Lockhartville; Louise (Ken) Harris, Greenfield; Judy (Doug) Barkhouse, Lockhartville; 6 grandchildren, Frank; Jeanie; Brent; Justin; Brook and Ivy; sisters, Virginia, Halifax; Ina Peters, Tremont. Besides his parents, Franklin was predeceased by his brothers, Charles Brooksfield (Brooks) and Benjamin Bruce in infancy. Visitation for Mr. Salsman will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday April 1, 2008 in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home 568 Main St., Wolfville (902-542-2151) from where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday April 2, 2008 with Rev. Dr. B. Morrison officiating. Interment will take place in Gaspereau cemetery. Family flowers only please however, donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
