Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
87, Wolfville formerly of Canning, Kings Co., died Saturday November 22, 2008 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Woodside 1921 Oct 21, she was a daughter of the late Isadore and Elizabeth (McFadden) Brady. After graduating from KCA, she continued her education at Mack's Business College in Kentville. During WW II, Catherine worked with Maritime Command in Halifax until marrying Babe Sarsfield in 1942. Catherine had been busy at home with her family and later was employed at Maple Leaf Farm Supplies, Canning as bookkeeper. She was a member of St Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Canning. Prior to the establishment of a Catholic church in Canning, Catherine had hosted a monthly Sunday mass in her home including ceremonies for First Communions and Confirmations. As a founding member, and former president, of the Canning Catholic Council, Catherine was very involved in the Cornwallis Interchurch Council and many other church activities. An avid cook, lover of a good card game (esp. bridge), Catherine also enjoyed a good walk, golf, traveling and shopping. Recognized by her warmth and hospitality and willingness to set another place at the table, Catherine's home and cottage welcomed many friends and relatives for food and companionship over the years. Her own children, nieces, nephews and neighbourhood friends will remember her ability to drop everything for an impromptu excursion to the beach to meet the incoming tide for a swim. Fondly remembered by all who knew Catherine, she is survived by daughter, Pat (Bill Davidson) Miller, Edmonton, Alberta; sons, Joe, Ottawa, Ontario and Jerry (Chris), Hudson, Iowa; granddaughter, Colleen (Steve Crux) Miller, Calgary, Alberta; grandsons, Michael Sarsfield, Chicago, Illinois and Sam Sarsfield, Hudson, Iowa; sister, Elizabeth (Brady) O'Brien, Halifax and many special relatives and friends.
