Obituary of Richard Thomas

Grand View Manor, Berwick, formerly of Aylesford, died peacefully in Valley Regional Hospital Thursday, Feb. 19th, 2009. Born in Boston, USA in 1913, he was the eldest son of Charles and Ruth (Illsley) Thomas. He had worked in various positions in the apple industry, owned and operated a taxi business, the Maritime Bus Line and school buses for Kings Vocational School. He enjoyed golf, curling, gardening and playing cards. Richard ws one of the founding members of the Aylesford Fire Department, and in 2008 received his 70 year pin as a member of the Harmony Lodge No. 52, A.F. & A.M., Aylesford. He was an adherent of the Aylesford United Church.Surviving are his wife, Evelyn (Graves), with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage on June 1st, 2008. Also surving are son, Dick (Diane), St. Catharines,Ont., daughter, Lynn (Alistair) MacNaughton, Aylesford, grandchildren, Sheina (Danny) Swinemar, Maura (Lorne) Timmons, Allan (Dawn) MacNaughton, Melissa Charlton and Alexander Thomas, great-grandchildren, Emma and Kate Timmons, Sammy and Jake Swinemar and Ava MacNaughton, sisters Marguerite Graham, Helen Sanford and brother, David Thomas. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Bertha Bligh, Audrey Freeman and brother, Cyril Thomas. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Monday, February 23, in Aylesford United Church, 2414 Hwy # 1, Aylesford. Rev. Tony Cole officiating.
