93, died peacefully at the Valley Regional Hospital in the company of family and friends on April 8, 2008. Born Nov. 12, 1914 in Nicholsville, Kings County, he was a son of the late William and Bessie (Allan) Ward. After managing Lamert Nichols' farm for twelve years, in 1945 Roy bought William Wentzell's farm in Nicholsville where he lived until his death. He was an active member of the Farmers Federation, having dairy, beef, and fruit production as his chief interests. He worked toward the development of 4H and the Western Kings Community Fair and visited St. Kitts and other Caribbean islands to promote 4H work. Roy was a member and trustee of the Harmony Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Daisy Ward, daughter of the late Spurlen and Alalia Gates; sisters Myrtle Shaw, Annie Dexter, Eva Beals, and Blanche Raymie; and brothers Harold, Chester, and Vernon. Many nieces, nephews, and special friends enjoyed his company and will miss him dearly. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S. B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900). A Funeral service will take place at the Harmony Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, Pastor Chuck McGuire officiating with special music by the Harmony Choir and Tom Hatt. Burial will take place in the family plot in the Aylesford Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harmony Baptist Church, Harmony, Kings County, NS or to the Wade Gates Memorial Bursary, Dalhousie University.
