SMITH, Florence Gertrude ?ì³ 92, of Berwick, passed away suddenly Tuesday February 23, 2010, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Canaan, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Urena (Whalen) MacDonell. Florence was a member of Berwick United Baptist Church, Central Kings Crusaders Seniors Club, Berwick Senior's Club and the last President of the Women's Institute of Berwick. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, knitting and spending time with her family. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Florence is survived by daughters, Betty Jean Smith, Berwick; Sharon (Tom) Beardsley, Kingston; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 16 great great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Victor; son, Ronald; daughter, Cora Carty; sister, Christina Amero and son-in-law, Rod MacIsaac. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 27, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, NS, B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), Rev. Marilyn Rose officiating. Interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville at a later date. Family flowers only, donations in Florence's memory may be made to the Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department, Kings Co., S.P.C.A. or charity of choice.
