Obituary of John Hynes

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hynes, John Alexander - Jack쳌 - Kentville, died on Sunday, March 7th at the Valley Regional Hospital, after a long illness. Jack was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 13th, 1930. He was educated at St. Mungo?¢s Academy and the University of Glasgow, graduating with a medical degree in 1955. Jack and his family immigrated to Canada in 1964, living in Winnipeg for five years before relocating to Kentville in 1969. He worked as a specialist in Internal Medicine in Kentville and other local hospitals and was instrumental in setting up the Intensive Care Unit at the old Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital. After his retirement, he was named Senior Member of the Medical Association of Nova Scotia in recognition of his long and distinguished service to the people of the Annapolis Valley. In 1955 Jack married Patricia McCambridge, also of Glasgow. Together they raised six children; their family grew over the years to include 17 grandchildren. Pat died early in 2008. Jack?¢s devotion to medicine and to his family did not prevent him from pursuing many other interests. In his youth his passion was cycling. Piece by piece he assembled his beloved - Flying Scot쳌 and rode it through Scotland, France, and Spain in the years following the Second World War. In later life he was an enthusiastic sailor, a chess player, and a student of the Gaelic language. Jack did many things in life, and whatever he did, he did well. Jack is survived by his children, Peter (Saskatoon), Michael (Calgary), Mark (Ottawa), Patricia (RosemÃ?¨re QC), Rosemary and Clare (both Oakville, ON), 17 grandchildren and his sister, Philomena Hynes (Strathaven, Scotland). There will be no visitation for Jack by his family?¢s request. The funeral will take place at St. Joseph?¢s Church on Wednesday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a private family interment at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 5 Leverett Avenue, Kentville (902-678-2151). Donations in lieu of gifts or flowers may be made to Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, or the V.O.N. Private condolences to the family may be sent by visiting www.lindsayfuneralhome.ca.
