SLAUENWHITE, Benjamin Standen ?ì³ 78, Grand PrÃ?é, formerly of Spryfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family January 23, 2010, in Valley Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Dorothy Slauenwhite. Ben retired from the Province of Nova Scotia in 1987 after 39 years of service. He enjoyed life and had many interests. Hunting, fishing, woodworking and skeet-shooting were a few of his favourite pastimes. He was a registered master guide and avid outdoorsman. Over the years he was involved with many organizations; Waverley Ground Search and Rescue, Ducks Unlimited and taught the Nova Scotia Fire Arms Safety and Hunter Training Course. He was a member of the Annapolis Valley Gun Club. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite; daughters, Janet Lilly (Brian), Judy Oakley (Kevin); sons, Benny (Jenny Gagnon), Joey (Sarah Dawson) and John (Joanne); step daughters, Margo Young (Tim) and Lynn Miller (Dave); grandchildren, Jennifer Lilly, Amy Leeper, Ashley Lilly, Michael Oakley, Sarah Oakley, Angela Slauenwhite, Laura Slauenwhite, Devon Morash, Tyler Young and Tara Gilkie; great-grandchildren, Ella Leeper, Jack Leeper and Graeme Messervey, as well as sisters: Lenta (Bill) Kruchka, Stoney Creek, Margaret (Bob) Ellis, Toronto, Evelyn McGraw, Toronto and Marilyn - Mykeì³ McPhee, Economy. Besides his parents, Ben was predeceased by a son in infancy, William; sisters, Gwen Gordon, Irene Bogue and Agnes McAvoy. Visitation will be held 2-4, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 26 in Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 568 Main St., Wolfville where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 27 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Gail Whalen-Dunn officiating. Ben's remains will be laid to rest in a private family service. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Ben can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
