SAUNDERS (Lawrence) Evelyn Lois - 90, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on Sunday, March 21, 2010. Born in Lakeville, Kings Co., she was the daughter of the late Earle and Freida (Porter) Lawrence. Evelyn was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She attended Provincial Normal College in Truro and taught school for 25 years in various places in Nova Scotia. While teaching in Berwick, Evelyn met her husband, Douglas Saunders and they resided on Main Street, Berwick, for all of their married life and recently celebrated their 60th. Wedding Anniversary. She was a faithful member of the Berwick Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Evelyn was an active member of the MacPherson Auxilliary and a founding member of the Enid Davidson Missionary Society. In her retirement years she dedicated her time in visiting sick and shut-ins, especially residents at Grand View Manor, Berwick. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Saunders; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Saunders; Amanda (Paul) Whitman, Berwick; Emily Beaton, Victoria, B.C.; brother-in-law, Edmund Saunders, Windsor; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Marjorie Perry; brothers, Lester and Roland Lawrence. Visitation for Evelyn will take place from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Funeral service will take place 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, in the Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Marilyn Rose officiating, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to the Berwick Baptist Church, Kings Co. S.P.C.A. Animal Shelter or to any charity.
