Born in Morden on July 3, 1917, he was a son of the late Charles Boyd and Frances Victoria (Cassidy) Dorey. Mason had taken his basic training in Yarmouth with the Army during the Second World War, but wasn?¢t called up for active service as his family business was busy supplying lumber for the construction of the Greenwood Air Base. Mason was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, enjoyed playing cards, visiting friends throughout Morden in the evenings, was an avid story teller and was well known as a local historian. He was an avid member of the Liberal Party and had ran for Kings County Council. Except for a couple of years, Mason had spent a lifetime in Morden, where he was a member and warden for many years at Christ Anglican Church.
