Obituary of Norma Margaret Best

BEST (Brydon), Norma Margaret - 86, daughter of the late Franklin Augustine and Hilda Madeline (Reid) Brydon, resident of Somerset, Kings Co. for 80 years and recently of Greenwich, Kings Co., passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Evergreen Home For Special Care, Kentville, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick William Best; brothers, Louis, Newton and Francis. Survived by sister, Madeline Gibson, Unionville, Ontario; sister-in-law, Margaret Brydon, Hope BC; half-brother, Harold (Beulah) Brydon, Somerset; daughters, Linda Best, Greenwich; Wenda (Blaine) Furlong, Dartmouth; Janice (Leigh) Smith, Bridgewater; N. Louise (Ronald) Little, Somerset; Nancy (Raymond) Porter, London, Ontario; grandchildren, Geoffrey (Laurie) Appleby and their children, Colin and Violet, Dartmouth; Suzanne (Andrew) Johnson and their son, Gavin, Bedford; Michael (Lisa) Smith and their children, Nathan and Fiona, Western Shore; Adam (Laura) Smith, Halifax; Kendall (Gina) Little and their children, Chase and Lauren, Quispamsis, N.B.; Alex (Lindsay Murphy) Little, Port Williams; Jamie (Sylvia) Porter and their son, Barrett, Oakville, Ont.; Heather (Ronnie) Francis, Oakville, Ont.; Aimee (Michael Plouffe) Porter, Baden, Ont. Mother, nanny, great-nanny - she was a friend to all her offspring, and she loved them dearly. Mom meant home - and great food, especially brown bread and apple pie. Our home was at the heart of our community and there were often extra chairs at the table. There was never a shortage of food, fun, friends and practical jokes. Mom was a long-time member of the Berwick Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years, was a member of the W.M.S. and the Weston-Welsford-Somerset Auxilliary. She played bridge with the same group of close friends for about 40 years. Mom and Dad enjoyed travel - especially trips to Prince Edward Island and in later years she and Linda visited Kindred Spirits in Cavendish every summer until dialysis interfered. Apart from her family, Mom?¢s proudest achievement was her quilts - perfection required - including one that was presented to the late Governor General Jeanne SauvÃ?©. Her interest in current events included concern for her descendents in the changing world. She will be greatly missed. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorial service for Norma will take place at 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, in the Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Marilyn Rose officiating. Interment will take place in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to any charity. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the H.C.
