Obituary of Florence Winnifred Hazel Rockwell

ROCKWELL, Florence Winnifred - Winnie쳌 Hazel, 97, Wolfville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 19, 2010 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after a brief illness. Born in Glenmont, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Martha (Metzler) Bennett. Winnie married John in 1931 and together they raised five children. She is survived by children Donald (Elizabeth), Kentville; R. Willis (Leona), Bridgewater; Sandra (Dalton) Gertridge, Gaspereau; and Mary Lou (Charles Francis), Bellisle, eight grandchildren, Robert, James, Paul, Nancy, Wendy, Randy, Donald, and Shawn, 11 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Jean Conrad, London, Ontario, and Marilyn (Rudy) Burghardt, Canaan. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John, son Allison, 3 grandchildren, Deborah, Johnny, and one in infancy. Winnie was also predeceased by brothers George, Vernon, Ross, Manley, and Gerald, and sisters Mildred, Lois, infant sister Minnie, and an infant at birth. Donations in her memory may be made to the United Church, New Minas or to a charity of one?¢s choice. No flowers and no visitation at Winnie?¢s request. There will be a Memorial Service held at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Gary Manthorne officiating. A reception will follow at the Gaspereau Community Hall. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
